The Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) is a three-day conference designed to bring together women in computing. It is the world’s largest gathering of women in computing and is named after the computer scientist Admiral Grace Murray Hopper.
The event occurs mid October and begins on a Wednesday and ends on a Friday. Woman gather here to network, learn, and find a community. At GHC 16, there were over 200 sessions and more than 700 speakers to accommodate the 15,000 attendees from 87 countries. Conference presenters are often leaders in their respective fields and the variety of activities offer opportunities for professional development as well.
As the Association of Women in Computing, GHC is an important event in our yearly plans. We try to fund as many girls as we can to go experience this incredible opportunity. This October, we were able to send 12 girls to GHC 17 in Orlando, FL. In 2018, hopefully we can send even more girls and one of them might even be you!
