WHat is GHC?
We are here to answer all of your questions about Grace Hopper Celebration!
GHC welcomes thousands of attendees from countries across the world to gather and celebrate women in computing. There are hundreds of inspiring sessions that promote personal and professional development. Conference presenters are often leaders in their respective fields.
WHO
Named after computer scientist Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, GHC is the world’s largest gathering of women in computing.
WHEN
GHC 2023 is on September 26-29. In general, GHC is a 3 or 4-day conference that occurs late September or early October.
WHAT
The event is designed to bring together women in computing. It is an amazing opportunity to network, learn, and find a community!
WHERE
GHC 2023 will be held in Orlando, FL! In the past, AWC has attended GHC in Houston, TX and also virtually.
How
If you are interested in attending GHC, there are many opportunities for sponsorships and scholarships.
As the Association of Women in Computing, GHC is an important event in our yearly plans. We try to fund as many girls as we can to experience this incredible opportunity!
However, the number of members that AWC can financially sponsor to attend GHC is limited by our club funds. For this reason, we encourage all members to also seek alternative ways to attend GHC, like independent scholarships through other organizations.
This way, we can maximize the number of our members who are able to attend GHC, even though AWC is only able to fund a certain number.
AWC Sponsorships
As a club, AWC offers sponsorships about 12-16 members per year. We select members to attend GHC based on level of involvement and commitment in the club, including but not limited to: holding leadership positions, being a tutor, attending meetings, and other factors. We provide stipends to selected members that cover the costs of conference registration, travel, and hotels.
We were able to send 12 members to GHC 2022. In the future, we hope to send even more. One of them might even be you!
Application & Essay
We typically open applications in the spring semester, which contain a short essay question on why you want to attend GHC. When the application opens, you can find it in our weekly newsletters!
Scholarships from Companies & Organizations
Many companies and organizations offer separate, independent scholarships and sponsorships to attend the Grace Hopper Conference. You can apply to these scholarships as you like, on your own in your free time. We encourage all our members to apply for as many independent scholarships as possible.
Most of these scholarships are available to any student who is studying full time at a university, and there are scholarships available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Many are also targeted towards underrepresented minority groups, towards CS/CE/other STEM majors, and other specialized groups.
