OUR MISSION
To attract and retain more women and non binary students in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and IST majors by providing an open, safe environment of peers and a place where women/non binary students can freely ask questions and learn more about their field. We promote the advancement of women/non binary in the technical fields and provide networking opportunities for all of our members.
Social
College is much easier when you have a support system. AWC is all about making a great group of friends by hosting fun social events!
Mentoring
AWC is committed to paying it forward. We strive to support one another in classes and in Penn State. Each member can bring advice to the table to help one another.
Outreach
Through Girls Who Code, our members help 6–12th grade female students explore coding in a fun and friendly environment. We also take part in community outreach.
Tutoring
AWC offers tutoring for all EECS and IST classes. Our members volunteer their time to retain students pursuing EECS and IST majors.
Networking
We offer unique corporate networking and recruiting events. We also provide opportunities for professional development and career planning.
Tech Workshops
We host Tech Talks and workshops for our members to learn about technology outside of the classroom.
These are The Facts.
Special thanks to the EECS Department for their continued dedication to diversity. There is strength in numbers, and efforts are being made to improve them. The following statistics show what percent of students in the School of EECS at Pennsylvania State University are female (as of Fall 2021).

Grace Hopper Celebration
The Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) is the world’s largest gathering of women in computing. AWC offers sponsorship to members each year based on level of involvement and commitment in the club. We were able to send 12 women to GHC 2023. In the future, we hope to send even more. One of them could be you!
Our Members
Our current membership consists of about 40 active members, though we’ve had over 150 unique students attend at least 1 AWC event! We hope to recruit more Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and IST majors.
